Traditional Country Pub in Goodwood, Chichester

Jonathan Keeble, Editor of Sussex Life Magazine picks his top must-see attractions to make a family weekend visiting Goodwood, Chichester. The Fox Goes Free got top marks …

“If refreshments are needed then the Fox Goes Free is perfect. Inside the 17th century flint and brick inn you’ll find excellent ales and traditional food – and a real country pub atmosphere… ”

When William III came to Goodwood he used to come to The Fox Goes Free to refresh the Royal Hunting Party on their breaks from London. The Fox Goes Free prides itself on the preservation of many of the original features, including, the bread oven, inglenook fireplaces, low beamed ceilings and brick floors. With this and the good range of real ales, fine wines and our extensive menu it will make your visit to a memorable one.

Goodwood is at the bottom of the South Downs, the pub is set in the beautiful countryside of the Goodwood Estate, close to the Weald and Downland (Singleton) Open Air Museum, Goodwood racecourse (for Goodwood Ladies Day) and Goodwood motor racing course (home of the infamous Festival of Speed and Revival) and the West Dean Gardens. A Sculpture Park and Golf Course are also close by. The nearest City to Goodwood is Chichester; a beautiful, quaint city boasting an impressive Gothic Cathedral and a large variety of shops and entertainment.
